I recently have had some interesting conversations around the definition of “Tagging” while building a new Sitecore Website.
So if you don’t know what “Content Tagging” is, it’s a way of associating “Keywords” to a piece of content. The reason that you would want to do “Content Tagging” is to link pieces of content together. I good example of this is a Blog Article that has been “Content Tagged” with a word such as “Retirement”, this then can have the ability to dynamically have related “Retirement” Blog Articles associated to it as a list of related links on the same page as the Article itself.
So my lesson here is the word “Tagging” means different things to different people. Be specific about what type of “Tagging” you’re talking about.
The good news is if you’re using Sitecore 8 you can leverage the inbuilt xDB Analytics engine and you don’t need to worry about third party tagging.
